Phylogenetic relationships among members of the zebrafish and mammalianGdf5, 6, 7 subgroup of genes. A neighbor-joining bootstrap tree was generated from mature domain sequences and arbitrarily outgrouped to dpp. Numbers above each branch point indicate percent bootstrap values (1000 replications). On the basis of this analysis and the genetic mapping (Fig. 3), the genes can be classified into three orthology groups:Gdf5, Gdf6, and Gdf7 as indicated by the three shaded bars.
