Family inheritance patterns. Each child inherits one copy of each autosomal chromosome from both parents. However, these copies are not exact replicas of either parent's chromosomes. Instead, recombination events produce a mixture of each parent's two copies. In this figure, darker and lighter blue represent the paternal copies, and red and pink represent the maternal copies.
