In this issue, the differences between lncRNA, mRNA, and eRNA core promoter sequences are characterized and found to play important roles in determining transcript tissue specificity. Illustrated are the differences between ubiquitously expressed mRNA promoters, represented by a busy airport terminal with lots of passengers (RNAs) and planes (transcription factors) that can land on runway motifs, and tissue specifically expressed lncRNA promoters, represented by a much smaller airport terminal with fewer passengers and planes.
