Chimpanzee-specific regions in panel A are positioned on the human karyotype; however, some chromosomes are structurally different between these species. For example, chromosome 1 differs because of a pericentric inversion and heterochromatin content (B); chromosome 2 differs because of a chromosomal fusion in human and the presence of subtelomeric heterochromatic caps (C).
