T1SS nucleotide gene alignments of H. defensa and R. insecticola strains in reference to H. defensa 5AT. Bolded strains with stars represent sequenced genomes. Phylogenetic relationships of strains are based on a 4334-bp alignment from T1SS genes (rtxB2, rtsD, rtxB1) using RAxML with 100 bootstraps. Plus signs indicate that the strain protects its aphid host against parasitoids, minus signs indicate a nonprotective phenotype, and “unk” indicates unknown phenotype, based on previous studies (Oliver et al. 2003, 2009; Vorburger et al. 2010) and this study.
