Cover The inflorescence of Gerbera hybrida is composed of morphologically different types of flowers that are tightly packed into a flower head, and the specific features of flower development in gerbera render it a rewarding model species representing the large plant family Asteraceae. Analysis of the gerbera transcriptome identifies unique gerbera sequences, including several transcription factors specifically upregulated in flowers, suggesting a role for them in flower organ development and differentiation.
