Cover The human round worm Strongyloides stercoralis has a unique life cycle with parasitic and free-living generations. The cover (created by Dr.Franklin Neva) depicts first-stage (rhabditiform) larvae (at a magnification of 400X) from the sputum of a patient with disseminated strongyloidiasis. Comparison of S. stercoralis clusters with stage-specific expression to Caenorhabditis elegans homologs expressed in either dauer or nondauer stages suggest conservation in the repertoire of genes expressed during growth in nutrient rich conditions.
