The missing enzymes in the amino acid biosynthesis pathways in E. coli, H. influenzae, and B. subtilis often involved the EC number hierarchy 2.6.1 of aminotransferases. This is a summary of reaction steps catalyzed by aminotransferases in the amino acid biosynthesis pathways according to KEGG release 4.1 (December 1997). The shaded boxes represent aspartate aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.1), which is assumed to have wide specificity for ligands (see text for details).
