Just like people in big cities, who rely on a complex network of infrastructure for their daily lives, cancer cells depend on the surrounding tumor microenvironment. In this issue, new landmarks are identified in the epigenome landscape of the tumor microenvironment, distinguishing between normal and tumor tissue. These peaks and troughs in DNA methylation are reimagined as a cityscape featuring landmarks from Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, where the collaborative research was performed.
