Strong preservation of original gene expression patterns in fused cells. In 12 fusions between 129TF and rat cells examined at the population level (first 12 data groups) and one fusion between 129TF and R1A examined at the clone level (last data group), the correlation of global gene expression levels before and after fusion for either fusion partner is greater than the correlation between the two partners after fusion, indicating a strong effect of cis-mediated regulation on global gene expression. The average fusion ratio between 129TF and rat cells is indicated in parentheses for each fusion examined at the population level.
