Three-color FISH experiment using StSat, SatIII, and rDNA on chimpanzee and gorilla chromosomes. SatIII and rDNA never colocalize with the StSat in both species. (A) In chimpanzee, however, rDNA and SatIII probes strongly colocalize on chromosomes XIIIpter (white arrows) and XIVpter (yellow arrows). (B) In gorilla, all chromosomal tips are positive for one of the three forms of the satellite.
