pax6a and pax6b knockdown disrupts the expression of putative target genes in the eye and brain. Of the 15 putative targets analyzed by WMISH, seven display altered expression within the eye or brain, at 28 hpf: (A–D) arx, (E–H) maf, (I–L) foxp2, (M–P) neurod, (Q–T) prox1, (U–X) tcf7l2, (Y–AB) tfap2a. The loss of expression of maf in the eye, B, illustrates that loss of tissue (the lens) can lead to observed loss of gene expression.
