Promoter methylation and gene repression. Promoter methylation is associated with gene repression. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) of promoters methylated in prostate cancer was performed on microarray expression data from corresponding samples. Significant correlation was observed between gene repression and promoter methylation among both promoters with (P-value < 0.001) or without (P-value < 0.001) CpG islands. Overexpressed transcripts were enriched among genes with gene body methylation (P-value < 0.024).
