Reciprocal intercross design. F1 males from the Mmc × Mmd cross inherit their X chromosome from their Mmc mother and their Y chromosome from the Mmd father. Conversely, F1 males from the Mmd × Mmc cross receive the Mmd X chromosome and the Mmc Y. Female F1's from both cross directions are genetically identical at all loci with the exception of the mitochondria. Significant differences between linkage maps derived from reciprocal F2 panels most likely derive from the distinct F1 male genotypes.
