Butyrate increases the total levels of H3ac and H4ac. Nuclear and cytoplasmic protein extracts were prepared from HepG2 cells that were either untreated (0 h), treated with 5 mM Na-Butyrate for 2 h or 12 h, or treated for 12 h and then kept for 6 h without the drug (12 + 6 h). The same amount of protein was used in all cases. For H3ac, the same Western blot is presented with different exposure times.
