DicA subnetwork. dicA is known to be an essential gene in E. coli. Intriguingly, we observed that DicA has a degree of only 2. However, as is clear from the subgraph, deletion of DicA leads to disconnected islands in the subnetworks, thereby offering an explanation to its essentiality.
