Prevalence of direct repeats at deletion boundaries; 1927 random deletions 200-500 bp in length were observed in the UCSC chimpanzee scaffold alignments to the July 2003 human genome. Observed flanking repeat occurrence (black bars) and expected occurrence if these deletions occurred by nonhomologous end joining alone (gray bars) are displayed. Flanking repeats ≥7 bp in size are expected to occur in less than one in 1927 cases.
