The observed and expected numbers of differences among S. cerevisiae, S. paradoxus, and S. mikatae in (A) 101 Ndt80 binding sites and (B) 82 Ume6 binding sites. The expected number of differences occurring within the TFBS was calculated using the synonymous substitution rate of 0.83 substitutions per site. The observed number of differences between the species was inferred by parsimony. The observed number of differences in Ndt80 sites occurring in the promoters of 39 middle meiosis genes (Chu et al. 1998) is shown in A.
