Figure 4.

A Venn diagram of the shared and unique portions of the proteomes of four Thermococcales strains. The protein sets for Pyrococcus spp. were obtained from the RefSeq collection in NCBI (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/RefSeq/) as NC_000868.1 for P. abyssi, NC_003413.1 for P. furiosus, and NC_000961.1 for P. horikoshii. Prior to the clustering analysis, all intein sequences were subtracted from the corresponding sequences. Thirteen proteins in P. furiosus (putative transposases) and four proteins in T. kodakaraensis (hypothetical proteins within TKV3 region) had been excluded from the protein sets because of complete duplication within the respective genomes.
