Cover A muscle regulatory module predictive of enhancer activity is identified in the Ciona savignyi genome through a synthesis of functional and sequence analyses. In situ hybridizations (upper left) identify coregulated muscle genes; for each gene, computational analyses of the gene’s upstream regions (stripe of sequence) and results from reporter assays yield integrated annotations (diagonal array of plots in the middle of the graphic) and a regulatory module consisting of three motifs whose logos are shown. Using the module to scan the genome, novel enhancers are identified (embryos in lower right). (Cover illustration by Midori Hosobuchi and David Johnson.
