Differentiation between Africans and non-Africans across the insulin region. Components of genetic variance attributed to differences in haplotype frequencies between African and non-African populations were determined by sliding-window AMOVA analysis (Excoffier et al. 1992) using the program SWAPS (see Methods) from overlapping blocks of 16 SNPs across the insulin region. Gene structure and SNP locations are represented below. Gray boxes are exons, black boxes introns, and the striped box is the minisatellite.
