Native and randomized coding regions of 4290 E. coli genes were divided into windows of the indicated size and the minimum folding free energies were computed for each window using the RNA fold program. Mean free energies over all windows are listed for native and randomized sequences (scaled in per kilobase units). These mean values were compared using Wilcoxin t-test.
