Genes and transposons are methylated in mouse and human. In wild-type (A) or transgenic control (B) mouse spleen, both genes and transposons are methylated. In mouse lymphoma cells (C), mouse cells in culture (D), or human cells in culture (E), genes remain methylated, whereas some transposons become demethylated.
