Disruptions to the coiled-coil arms display notable sequence conservation amid poorly conserved flanking coiled-coil regions. The disruptions (SMC3 loop I and SMC3 loop II) to the predicted coiled-coil domain are boxed. These disruptions are present within regions of high local homology relative to the remainder of the sequence.
