Distribution of insert lengths of the 339 end-sequenced clones of theT. pallidum library. The average insert size was 46.7 kb and the insert length ranged from 6.4 to 120.4 kb as calculated by comparison to the genomic sequence. The major peak corresponds to insert lengths of 51–60 kb and a second, minor peak was observed for insert lengths 11–30 kb.
