Epidemiological data include name, genus, and geographical origin. STLV-1 serology was determined by Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA) and Western blot, SIV serology by specific Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and Western blot confirmation, and KSHV serology by IFA assay at a dilution of 1/40. Distribution of the different novel herpesviruses, in the 31 chimpanzees and gorillas for which DNA was available, was determined by specific oligonucleotide probe hybridization on the VYGA-GDTD1B nPCR products (and on Pp2is-Ppas nPCR products for PanRHV2).
