Loci to the left of each chromosome are those identified in this study and loci to the right are the previously cloned clock genes likely to form the core of the central pacemaker mechanism, with flanking SSLP markers included. Also noted is the map position of thewheels locus, identified by a mutation believed to have an effect on circadian rhythms in mammals (Nolan et al. 1995). Genes noted by an asterisk are core clock genes mapped previously (King et al. 1997; Sangoram et al. 1998; Wolting and McGlade 1998; Lowrey et al. 2000).
