Complementary approaches used in the development of the integrated canine genome map. The cover depicts the late Bernese Mountain Dog UK KC Ch. Meadowpark Early Embargo at Legecium ("Retford") at the age of seven weeks amidst a multiplexed PCR canine genotyping gel. The left inset is an image of seven cosmid clones hybridized simultaneously to canine chromosome 5 (CFA 5) by multicolor FISH. The right inset is the DAPI-banded image of the ssame CFA 5. In the background is a DAPI-counterstained dog metaphase, showing the co-hybridization of a Texas red-labeled whole-chromosome paint probe and an FITC-labeled single locus probe to a single pair of homologs.
