Alignment of the amino-terminal region of the four B. subtilis, Salmonella typhimurium, and E. coli sequences selected from the tree shown in Fig. 2. In a, the original YQJI_BACSU sequence is used; in b the corrected sequence is used;c shows the translation we have used to correct YQJI_BACSU. This translation starts at 190 nucleotides before the position of the initiation codon given in the sequence annotations of B. subtilis genome. The insertion of a G at position −70 (arrow), is responsible of the frameshift that prevented the annotators to find the real initiation codon.
