  • The gap between SfiI fragments was measured by subtraction of the total size of the XhoI-SfiI fragment from the size of the XhoI fragment. The RPS repeat, which is a subrepeat element of MRS, includes several SfiI sites per unit. Because the size of the unit is ∼2 kbp, 2 kbp corresponds to one RPS unit. Errors of +/− 2 kbp seem to be unavoidable. Because one of the homologous chromosomes has undergone translocation in NUM1000, only one XhoI fragment was assigned to both probes. Each probe hybridized to one other fragment from the translocation.
