Call for Papers: The Genetics and Genomics of Somatic Mosaicism
Deadline Extended to November 1!
Genome Research is now inviting submissions reporting original research offering novel advances and insights into the genetics and genomics of somatic mosaicism to be included in a Special Issue, Guest Edited by Drs. Gilad Evrony, Eunjung (Alice) Lee, and Raheleh Rahbari.
This special issue will highlight insights into the origin, patterns, consequences, and detection of somatic mutation across human and model organisms. We invite studies at all levels of resolution, from single cells to tissues and organs, that explore the fundamental biology of somatic mosaicism and its impact on development, aging, health, and disease.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Rates, spectra, and clonal dynamics of somatic mutations across tissues, developmental stages, and aging
- Mechanisms by which somatic mutations arise and are subject to selection
- The role of somatic mosaicism in normal biology, disease susceptibility, and cancer
- Evolutionary and population level studies of somatic variation
- Mathematical or computational models of somatic mutation processes
- Advances in methods for detecting mutations for reconstructing cellular lineages and understanding clonal dynamics and pathology
We especially encourage submissions that cover conceptual or technical advances, and studies that uncover unexpected roles of somatic mutations.
Authors submitting manuscripts for consideration may simultaneously deposit in bioRχiv. Accepted manuscripts can be published online in advance in Genome Research prior to the Special Issue print publication. We expect to coordinate the publication of these papers with commissioned Reviews and Perspectives in the Special Issue, which will appear in 2026.
Please submit online at https://submit.genome.org by November 1, 2025, and include "Somatic Mosaicism Special Issue" as one of the keywords.
We encourage presubmission queries. For editorial evaluation of the suitability of your work for consideration for the Special Issue, please email a cover letter and an Abstract to Associate Editor, Dr. Ahmet Denli.
Genome Research is published by the nonprofit Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press. When considering submission to Genome Research, please note that the journal is among the highest ranked primary research journals in genetics, biotechnology, and molecular biology. As always, Genome Research remains committed to the community it serves, setting standards in data quality, reproducibility, and accessibility, and offering an Open Access option for authors.
