For each D. melanogaster chromosome arm, the number of observed orthologs ofA. gambiae genes was tallied (numbers are from the vertical columns in Table 5). The Anopheles arm (column 3) is from Table 5. Expected orthologs and percentages for each A. gambiae chromosome arm were calculated on the basis of the length these arms (see Results). The P value determined is indicated as inverse P value whereas the correspondingP value in column 9 is taken from Table 5. Column 6 is calculated from columns 2 and 4.
