Schematic overview of the procedure used to build TIGR Orthologous Gene Alignment (TOGA). The tentative consensus (TC) sequences from the 28 TIGR Gene Index databases are searched against each other. Transitive, reflexive best matches linking three (or more) species define a tentative ortholog group (TOG). Additional nonreciprocal best matches define tentative paralogs.
