Variation in bacterial metabolic potential. The heat map shows the predicted presence or absence of the most abundant MPGs across our genome collection (grouped according to the bacterial phylogeny). This revealed the metabolic potential of the individual strains. The majority of MPGs detected were absent from all strains, with a core of 45 bacterial pathways predicted always present. The rest of the MPGs exhibit distinct patterns even within the same genus.
